It is with deep sadness that I address the staff, students, parents, extended family of the Washington Archibald High School, and the nation on the passing of a young life: that of Sean John.
His life was tragically and senselessly taken. An act of Violence which has left us all in a state of shock and grief. The safe zone which we seek to provide in school must extend to our communities and our nation. Our children must be protected whether in or out of school. The Ministry of Education condemns all acts of violence and pledges to do everything within our power to re-establish that sense of safety and security among our children.
Parents and Guardians, kindly take note that the Washington Archibald High School will be open tomorrow, Monday, 15 September 2025, as we believe that students need the opportunity to grieve among their peers. Students needing special counsel will be provided with such at the school to assist them as they navigate this difficult time.
Citizens and residents, we have a collective responsibility to be agents of peace so that our federation remains a country where peace abounds. Therefore, let us continue to work towards creating a peaceful and safe nation where our children can thrive and succeed.
Also, in this time of grief, let us allow Sean’s family the time and space to grieve. May God continue to bless and comfort us all.
