Basseterre: St. Kitts, Monday, November 03, 2025: The Ministry of Education’s School Counsellors Network officially launched Career Week 2025 under the theme “Developing Skills; Designing Careers for the Future” on Monday, November 3. The launch took place simultaneously in schools across St. Kitts during their morning assembly sessions.
Minister of Education, Hon. Dr. Geoffrey Hanley, expressed pride and optimism as he inaugurated the 2025 observance of Career Week.
“Today, I have the distinct pleasure to officially launch the Ministry of Education’s School Counsellors Career Week 2025. This year, we gather under the powerful theme: “Developing Skills, Designing Careers for the Future.” A theme that speaks not only to the evolving landscape of education and employment, but to the heart of what it means to prepare our young people for a world that is changing faster than ever before.”
He further emphasized the importance of preparing students for future opportunities by developing essential skills and exposing them to a diverse range of professional fields.
“Career Week is not just a celebration—it is a call to action. It is a moment to reaffirm our commitment to equipping our students with the skills they need to succeed: critical thinking, adaptability, emotional intelligence, and digital literacy. It is a time to showcase the pathways available to them, whether academic, technical, entrepreneurial, or artistic.”
Mrs. Sasha-Gay McDermott, Guidance Counsellor Coordinator, gave insight into the expectations for Career Week.
“We have a weeklong schedule of activities that students will participate in. We start on Monday, when Career Week will be launched in all schools. We will have a panel discussion on Tuesday at the Zion Moravian Church, and on Wednesday, we will have Parent-Child Finding Your Niche within the schools. On Thursday, we are inviting everyone to come to the Career Fair held at Warner Park, and to finish off the week of activities, we will have Career Wear and Share on Friday.”
The annual observance aims to expose students to a wide range of career opportunities, encourage self-exploration, and promote skill development as a foundation for lifelong success.
